I’ve always lived in the city and though we can see the stars, they’re dimmed rather because of the light pollution, and I’d never realised to what extent.
Tonight I got out of the car in the middle of Ireland with no other dwelling for some way and no street lights within hundreds of yards and I looked up and the sky was absolutely coated with stars of varying strengths and sizes. There was a milky wispy chunk a little like glittery cirrus cloud and that was the Milky Way. It was awesome.
I stood in the cold as long as I could stand and just looked and saw so, so, so many stars.
